Phenomenon-based Biology Teaching for Diverse Populations of Students

Spanish style building at Balboa Park

2024 Dates

Do you teach biology or life sciences in grades 5-12?  Come join us for a multi-part workshop.  It includes meetings over two in-person weekends. The first weekend is in San Diego in May and the second is in Sacramento in November. We also have a handful of virtual one-hour sessions to stay connected.  For the weekend workshops, we pay your travel expenses so you can focus on your biology/life sciences teaching!

Do you center your lessons around a phenomenon?  Do you come back to that phenomenon as you gather evidence throughout the unit of study? Do your students develop rich explanations of the phenomenon? Do they use scientific practices and cross-cutting concepts to learn the scientific concepts that form the foundation of the phenomenon?

Do you wish you could do these things better?  Do you struggle to find relevant phenomena and make your teaching authentically interesting for all of your students?  Come join us to grapple with these topics and build a community of teachers dedicated to continuous improvement of our teaching.

Please confirm that you are available for ALL of the dates before registering. Hope to see you in the Phenomenon-based Biology workshops!
